Announcement: Jennie Green as new President

Dear St George's Society Members and Friends,

The St. George’s Society of Toronto and its Committee of Management (COM), are pleased to announce the appointment of Jennifer (Jennie) Green as the charity’s next President. The St. George’s Society of Toronto is the oldest charity in Toronto and is one of the oldest charitable organizations in Canada.

Jennifer is Senior Director of Partnerships and Development at Business / Arts. She has over 20 years of leadership and executive experience. Previously, she has worked with Toronto Arts Foundation, Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Soundstreams, and Kaeja d’Dance. She has also guest lectured at Toronto Metropolitan University’s School of Performance, and Schulich School of Business’ MBA Program in Arts and Media Administration. Jennifer has been a Member of the Committee of Management of the St. George’s Society of Toronto since 2020.

She has volunteered on boards including: Department of Imaginary Affairs, Actors Repertory Company, and as Founding President of Fu-Gen Asian Canadian Theatre Company; and advisory committees for Work in Culture, Financial District Business Improvement Association, the Toronto Host Committee for International Society of Performing arts, Opera.ca's Finance Committee, the dance committee for Toronto Arts Council, the founding executive committee for Emerging Arts Professionals.

Jennifer was appointed as a volunteer to the Office of the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario in 2012, serving the Honourable Elizabeth Dowdeswell, and her predecessor the Honourable David Onley.

She obtained a Masters in Theatre from the University of Toronto, and a Bachelor of Arts in Speech & Theatre and English Writing from St. Lawrence University in New York, with studies abroad in Rouen, France and London, England.

Green is honoured to be the Society’s new President and appreciates the opportunity to contribute to the historical charity and support culture, education, health care, and social and community service in the City of Toronto. “I have a deep respect for St. George’s Society’s history of supporting newcomers, and look forward to continuing that legacy, while supporting organizations doing the vital work of helping those most in need.”

Green is taking over from Aarondeep (Aaron) Bains, who has served as president since 2020 and who will continue to be involved with the Society as Past President on the Committee of Management. “The Committee of Management would like to thank Aaron for his steady leadership throughout the pandemic. He has been an important steward for the organization and a dedicated advocate for the charitable sector. We are fortunate that he will continue being part of the St. George’s Society” says Jennifer.

Aaron Bains notes that he and the rest of the Committee of Management are very excited to have Green as the next President of the St George’s Society of Toronto. “Jennifer will bring fresh ideas and new energy to the role.
